About Maxim Osipov

Maxim Osipov is an internationally-acclaimed Russian writer and cardiologist. Since making his debut in 2007 with a startlingly candid account of his experiences working as a doctor in a provincial Russian town, Osipov has published several collections of short fiction, essays and two plays, becoming one of the most important living Russian-language writers for his unflinching and deeply perceptive portrayal of contemporary Russian life. He has won numerous prestigious literary awards and his works have been translated into twenty languages. Shortly after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Osipov emigrated from Russia. He is currently writer-in-residence at Leiden University, where he edits Fifth Wave, a magazine of independent writing in Russian.
