The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Maryland offers a minor, and features dynamic courses on the languages and cultures of the Portuguese speaking countries.

We offer elementary to advanced level Portuguese language, and classes on the culture, cinema, and literature of the Lusophone countries. Our courses provide essential linguistic and critical thinking skills necessary to navigate a globalized and culturally diverse world. Students in our program enjoy consistent interaction and support from faculty. We are committed to a rigorous linguistic and cultural education to help our students advance academically and professionally.
