SLLC Mourns Loss of Cynthia Martin

The associate professor of Russian was also a mentor, a generous colleague and a dear friend.
Cynthia “Cindy” Martin, associate professor in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (SLLC), who was also the undergraduate program director for Russian, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 3.
Mel Scullen, SLLC director, shared: “Cindy was a beloved teacher of Russian, an inspiring mentor, a generous colleague, and a dear friend to many. She joined the University of Maryland in 1990 and tirelessly strove to make things better for her students and colleagues, the school, and the field of language teaching and assessment. She leaves behind an enormous legacy and a huge void. She will be sorely missed.”
There will be a an informal Open House on December 12th from 12-2pm in the Language House Multipurpose Room, St. Mary's Hall for the campus community to gather and honor Dr. Martin.
