The Language House Japanese Cluster Learn to Play the Koto

On February the 27th, Kyoko Okamato from the School of Music demonstrated how to play the koto to the Japanese Cluster of the Language House. 

The Language House mentors seek to provide students with cultural opportunities to immerse themselves in the target language and culture. The Language House mentor Sanshiroh Ogawa helped take lead on this event for their student cluster in the Language House.  Mentors in the Language House are always looking for new and exciting ways to engage with language and culture and thanks to Sashiroh and Kyoko the students from the language cluster learned first hand how to play the traditional Japanese string instrument. 

On April the 24th at 2:00 PM the UMD Japanese Koto Ensemble directed by Kyoko Okamato will perform in concert. The admission is free and one can also livestream from their home. You can read more about the event using this link.
