Institute for Studies in Latin American Art (ISLAA)

The Department is delighted to announce a multi-year gift from the Institute for Studies in Latin American Art to support the study of Latin American art. Dr. Abigail McEwen in the Department will partner with colleagues at Temple University and the University of Pittsburgh to fully exploit the rich opportunities ISLAA's gift provides, including and especially convening the ISLAA Forum, an annual gathering that encourages exchanges and resource-sharing between graduate students at the three institutions. This year's edition of the ISLAA Forum: Living Histories of Latin American Art will take place virtually on January 29th, and as a consortium enables professional development and regional community among emerging scholars.

The Department is grateful to ISLAA and to its President and Founder, Ariel Aisiks, for its continued support of Latin American art research at universities across the United States and internationally. Founded in 2011 and based in New York City, ISLAA is a private research institute, whose mission is to advance scholarship and public engagement with art from Latin America. To that end, it offers a number of programs to support emerging scholars, who are always welcome to reach out to ISLAA as a resource. ISLAA also encourages new scholarship on Latin American art through the support of public programs, publications, and exhibitions, in collaboration with international universities, museums, and art centers.
