Dr. Jaffer Sheyholislami is Associate Professor, and Assistant Director (ALDS) in the School of Linguistics and Language Studies, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Sheyholislami has published extensively in the areas of critical discourse studies, Kurdish linguistics, multilingual education, and Kurdish language policy and planning especially in the context of Iran and Iraq. He is the author of the monograph Kurdish Identity, Discourse and New Media, Palgrave MacMillan, New York, 2011, and co-editor of a special issue (#217) of the International Journal of the Sociology of Language (2012) devoted to Kurdish sociolinguistics and language policy. In addition to numerous book chapters and encyclopedia articles, Dr. Sheyholislami has published in several peer-reviewed journals such as Language Policy, Discourse and Society, and International Journal of the Sociology of Language. He has also published two collections of poetry in Kurdish, several short stories, and numerous literary and linguistic articles in Kurdish magazines and books. His current research concerns linguistic landscapes, language policy and multilingual education in Iran, Kurdish corpus planning, and sociolinguistics in, addition to language mapping in the Kurdish speaking areas of Iran.
