Making place through art: rewriting pop symbols and memory

Homesickness is real, and finding community is hard. Explore what it means to make a place and make home through memories of your childhood and pop symbols. Create art pieces that embed your memories in your present space. As we work on a guided painting project, we will think about what certain pop images mean to you and how you can re-color these childhood symbols to occupy present space. How can the processes of art making and displaying images in our new environments help create a home?

As we paint, we will also be jamming to Juan Gabriel, Juan Luis Guerra, Celia Cruz, Juanes, Vicente Fernandez, Carlos Vives, Cumbias…and all those feel good jams from the tias! You’re welcome to contribute to the playlist too!
