Escape the cold and come celebrate Carnaval with us for a day of workshops, talks, and a party! When Carnaval celebrations come around each year, cities throughout the world explode in a spectacle of color and texture so vivid they feel like a dream. But the celebrations are very real, taking place everywhere from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Haiti, from downtown Toronto to Calabar, Nigeria where parades can stop traffic for a day or two, or a month. Each respective festival has a rich history of its own, borne from the unique chemistry of its region.

February 13th at Multipurpose Room St Mary's Hall, UMD Suggested attire: Costumes 9:15 am - Greetings 9:30 am - Carnaval in the French-Speaking World Prof. Cecile Accilien 11 am - Celebrating Brazil's Carnavals Prof. Barbara Zocal Da Silva 12:30 pm - Taller "Quien lo vive es quien lo goza' acercamientos al Carnaval de Barranquilla Tatiana I. Chi Miranda, SPAP PhD Candidate and Spanish Club Students 1:20 pm - Party /Festa / Fiesta / Fête Snacks will be served 2:00 pm - Experiences, Performance, and Salsa Pro
