Book Launch: "Hip Hop, Education and Literacies of Reexistence in Brazil"

College of Arts and Humanities | School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Thursday, November 14, 2024 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm HJ Patterson, HJP 2114-2118

Join us for the book launch of "We're an Example of Trajectories and Victories: Hip Hop, Education and Literacies of Reexistence" by Dr. Ana Lúcia Silva Souza, professor at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil, and translated by Ayala Tude.

Dr. Souza will discuss the book’s writing process, its translation into Black English, and her community work in Salvador. She will also offer a brief overview of hip-hop as a cultural heritage in Brazil, exploring its significance in hip-hop studies. Dr. Souza’s research methodology, which incorporates rodas (hip-hop cyphers), narrative storytelling, and image analysis, will be highlighted as one of the book’s most innovative aspects. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with key insights into the intersection of hip-hop, education, and re-existence.

The event will feature a mediation with José Magro and a live Portuguese-English interpretation by Barbara Zocal Da Silva. This event is organized by Ryan Long and Tanya Saunders.
