John’s interest in language acquisition was sparked during his study abroad to Hong Kong while an undergrad at Syracuse University. He taught English in mainland China and, after learning Mandarin, later taught Chinese at the Defense Language Institute. He is passionate about bridging the gap between East and West through mutual language learning. His research interests include the critical period, second language processing, language selectivity, tone recognition, and second language attrition.
