Ahmed Hanafy is a Senior Lecturer in the Arabic Studies Department. He is also the Undergraduate Advisor of the program, and the Academic Director of the Arabic Summer Language Institute. Ahmed is also the Academic coordinator of the language Partner Program at the University of Maryland, and he is a co-author of the scenario-based, intercultural online learning modules "Flagship Culture Initiative" developed for students of critical languages in the USA. He was also the Assistant Director of the Arabic Flagship Program at the University of Maryland.

Ahmed graduated from Alexandria University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Arts and Education, before he continued with Master’s studies in English-Arabic Translation. Ahmed also holds a Master's degree in Second Language Acquisition from the University of Maryland. Prior to joining the Arabic Department, Ahmed worked at Alexandria University as a lecturer of Arabic as a foreign language, and also taught with the Arabic Flagship Program overseas at the "Arabic Flagship Capstone program" in Egypt and Morocco.
