Three doctoral researchers in the University of Maryland’s Second Language Acquisition program are receiving recognition for innovative research that advances how we understand language learning. Tetiana Tytko has earned an MPower Research Assistantship, while Ruirui Jia and Mireia Toda Cosi have each received highly competitive Language Learning Dissertation Grants. Their projects use methods ranging from eye-tracking studies to a large-scale meta-analysis to explore how learners acquire vocabulary, process multiple word meanings and draw on individual cognitive strengths.
