Salgado Maranhão is considered one of the most prominent Brazilian living poets. His poetry collections have won several awards, including two Jabuti prizes, Brazil's most prestigious book recognition. A sample of his poetry is attached to this email.

At UMD he will read from his recent poetry collection and talk to us about the politics of writing, translation, and resistance in contemporary Brazil.
