Dr. Josh Alvizu will discuss the possibilities, forms, and limits of political poetry in the shadow of fascism. The chief case study will be the poems of Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956) written in Danish exile prior to the Second World War. Special attention will be paid to Brecht’s montage technique, which proves to be an essential component of his anti-racist project.
