Valerie Anishchenkova Wins Isrca

Associate Professor of Arabic, Dr. Anishchenkova, is one of this year’s recipients

Associate Professor of Arabic, Valerie Anishchenkova, is one of this year’s recipients of the Independent Scholarship, Research, and Creativity Awards.

Granted by the Provost and Vice President of Research, the award aids faculty who are pursuing independent academic and/or creative endeavors. Providing a monetary award of up to $10,000 it affords the recipient time and/or funding to pursue their research.

According to Dr. Fatemeh Keshavarz, Director of SLLC, "Valerie will use the time to work on her book manuscript "Wars R Us: Violence and Identity in the U.S., the Middle East, and Russia After the Cold War". This book project offers a comparative perspective on cultural identity politics in Russian, American, and Arabic-speaking countries by bridging the two cultural contexts – violence and new media – that have a profound impact on contemporary selfhood."

A hearty congratulations to Valerie!
