Spap Welcomes Columbian Writer Melba Escobar

SPAP welcomed Colombian writer and journalist, Melba Escobar, who was participating in the 2019 National Book Festival celebrated in Washington DC.

SPAP welcomed Colombian writer and journalist, Melba Escobar, who was participating in the 2019 National Book Festival celebrated in Washington DC. A graduate of the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Escobar is the autor of three novels, Duermevela (Planeta 2010), La casa de la Belleza (emecé 2015) and her most recent, La mujer que hablaba sola (Seix Barral 2019), one children's book and many other journalistic texts. She visited UMD, read from two of her works, and dialogued with faculty and graduate students about her writing process in relation to gender. Her novel, La casa de la belleza, has been translated into fifteen languages and might become a TV series.
