GERM Major Yesenia

German Major awarded scholarship

The German Society of Maryland established an Award Program to recognize college and university students from Maryland majoring in German. Each year, the Society provides up to 3 awards of $1,000.00 each to outstanding German majors in the Maryland, DC region. Congratulations to Yesenia Montenegro as recipient of this year's award! This year majors from the German Studies department won two of the three available awards.

Yesenia Montenegro is a sophomore double majoring in journalism and German Studies. She is originally from Stuttgart, Germany, but moved to Maryland when she was 12. Because of her background Yesenia wanted to continue her German studies at UMD. Yesenia hopes to work as an intern at a German news organization before she graduates, in order to gain experience in both of her fields of study. In the future, she would like to work as a foreign correspondent in Germany, or work for a German news organization in the U.S.

Congratulations to Yesenia Montenegro as recipient of this year's award!
