Andrew Schonebaum is Associate Professor of Chinese Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park.  He is interested in vernacular entertainments, encyclopedia, natural science and daily life in China.  His recent works include Novel Medicine: Healing, Literature and Popular Knowledge in Early Modern China and Approaches to Teaching The Story of the Stone (Dream of the Red Chamber –co-edited with Tina Lu).  Two new books are Classifying the Unseen: Curiosity and Common Knowledge in Late Imperial China (forthcoming from University of Washington Press), and Approaches to Teaching Plum in the Golden Vase (The Golden Lotus) (edited, from Modern Language Association).
