Spanish heritage Language Pedagogical Workshops

School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures | Spanish and Portuguese Saturday, November 6, 2021 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

This workshop revises core principles of Project-Based Language Learning (PBLL) considering its integration in diverse Spanish as a Heritage Language (SHL) classrooms. PBLL offers a flexible and comprehensive framework for SHL education by supporting a) language and literacy development; b) intercultural knowledge and critical cultural understanding; c) motivation, autonomy, and self-efficacy, and d) collaboration and sense of belonging to communities of learning.

The workshop focuses on analyzing successful SHL projects (photo-essays, cultural videos, large translation tasks) which will serve as initial blueprints for participants to design their own projects. Step-by-step guides, revision of best practices, and issues on project assessment will be presented and discussed.

PLEASE NOTE: The workshop will be facilitated in Spanish and the Q&A and discussion following the workshop will be in English and Spanish.
