Adonis de Carvalho Borges

Adonis joined the Ph.D. program in Second Language Acquisition in the Fall of 2018. Using cognitive and quantitative approaches, he researches the best classroom practices to facilitate non-native language learning. He is particularly interested in L2 saliency and long-term lexical retention. Adonis also investigates teaching procedures and practices that promote the acquisition of second language pragmatics, with a particular emphasis on the Portuguese and Spanish languages. He served as a Portuguese language tester and material developer at the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute and is a co-author of the Culture App, a project sponsored by the Department of Defense. Adonis holds a B.A. in Translation and Interpretation from the Ibero-American University Center of Sao Paulo and an M.A. in Linguistics with a concentration in Applied Linguistics from the University of Texas.
