Chelsea Sypher is the Director of Special Programs and provides management level support and leadership for the Arabic Flagship and Special Programs at UMD. She also serves as Administrative Director of the SLLC Summer Institute.
Chelsea received her BA in International Relations from the University of Sussex and her MSc in Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh. She grew up in the Middle East (Iran, Saudi Arabic, Bahrain, and Qatar) and benefited greatly from living, working, and studying internationally.
Her first career was in language teaching and she has taught in the UK, South Korea, and in the Middle East, most notably for six years at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman where she focused on language assessment and materials development for language learning. She greatly enjoys applying lessons she learned while teaching language to her role in developing and supporting new language and culture focused programs.
