On Thursday, April 28, 2016, Dr. Manuel Portela from the Universidade de Coimbra, (Portugal), offered an introductory Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) workshop for graduate students of the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The two-part workshop began with a comprehensive introduction to text encoding, key definitions and scholars, and a discussion of the evolution of the Initiative. During the second half, the participants worked with Oxygen, an XML Editor, and applied the ideas previously covered to various texts including poems, manuscripts, and journal articles. Dr. Portela’s organization and interactive approach created a collaborative environment among the participants resulting in a truly engaging experience. The Department of Spanish and Portuguese thanks Dr. Portela for this unique opportunity.

This event was sponsored by the CITL in SLLC and organized by María Cristina Monsalve, SPAP PhD Candidate.
