SPAP's Open House 2017

Printer-friendly version

On Thursday, March 30, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese held its annual open house, an event conceived as an opportunity to attract students to the study of the Spanish language, its literatures and its cultures. It was an afternoon of information, food, music and games for students, faculty and alumni.

The event included an informative presentation by César Vélez-Peñaloza and Adrew Caves, both former students from the department. They offered insight into their career paths and how their degree in Spanish enabled them to pursue their careers. In addition, Rafael Román and Jill Ortman-Fouse talked about the opportunities that people who speak Spanish have to succeed in the fields of law and education.

After the informative session, students enjoyed Argentine empanadas and learned some tango moves by our own Daniela Bulansky. The tango lesson was followed by a performance by a group of Guatemalan traditional dancers and members of the Marimba Linda Xelaju.

SPAP’s Open House 2017 was a success.
