SLLC Welcomes New Faculty: Chris Kern

J. Christopher Kern received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 2014. His primary research is on medieval reception of the Tale of Genji, particularly the commentary tradition. He is also interested in Heian-era waka poetry. Before coming to University of Maryland, he was a visitor at both Kenyon and Oberlin Colleges in Ohio. At UMD he will be teaching courses in classical Japanese as well as pre-modern literature in translation.
