The Teaching and Learning Transformation put the following call out this year:

"Join us in saying thank you to the teachers that make the difference. Timed to coincide with national Teacher Appreciation Week, we invite everyone to reflect on their most influential teachers, express their appreciation, and collectively recognize the excellence in teaching that exemplifies the University of Maryland."

During this week, they sponsor a number of activities, including Thank-a-Grams, a Roving FREE Ice Cream Bus, and the Selfie Sweepstakes. And they make a strong argument for the health benefits of these acts of gratitude.

"Sure, saying 'thank you' can make someone else feel great, but did you know that it's also good for you?  Researchers have found that expressing gratitude improves your mood, reduces stress, and even reduces the chances of getting sick (Sheldon & Lyubomirsky, 2006Emmons & Stern, 2013).  Sounds like a Thank-a-Gram is just what the doctor ordered.”
