Established in December 2000 to support scholarships for one or more outstanding students studying foreign language at the University, who have a long-term vocational desire to apply their language skills to a field such as architecture, law, business, translation, public policy, or government service (i.e., a field other than language or literature teaching).


Number of Awards to be Distributed:

2 awards of $300 each



Majors in French, German, and Japanese

Minimum GPA of 3.5

Previous recipients are ineligible

Cover letter

Short Essay (600 words; 12 pt. font; double spaced; Times New Roman): How can foreign language studies advance career opportunities in fields other than foreign language education?

1 letter of recommendation from a professor in your major (letters may also be submitted electronically to ).
