Welcome to the Persian Flagship Program at the University of Maryland!
As the only Persian Flagship Program in the United States, the University of Maryland's Undergraduate Persian Flagship offers a state of the art language curriculum that aims to educate global professionals with superior command of Persian and a deep understanding of the life and cultures of the Persian-speaking countries of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
Our program provides students with the opportunity to attain a professional level of proficiency (ILR 3 and above) while studying their major(s) of choice at UMD. Highly sought after language skills, cultural competence, and achievements in their own academic fields prepare our graduates for employment here in the U.S. and abroad.
Our program’s proximity to the national capital and its access to a sizable and vibrant Iranian-American community in the greater DC area provides students with internship opportunities to develop professional skills and allows for a rich calendar of cultural events.
Want to know more about our program? Read through the Spring 2015 edition of the Persian Flagship student newsletter, Laakposht Nameh (Turtle Times). You can read about the original research presented by students during the UMD Flagship Student Research Colloquium in April, get to know the next cohort of Capstone students, and find out more about the Capstone internships, Persian Flagship field trips and more.
We encourage interested students to attend one of our Persian clubs or activities to meet current Flagship students and find out what we're all about. By going to News & Events, you can always find out what we have planned next.
Current students of Persian can also look through our Persian Learning Resources for helpful links to Persian media, language resources and Persian events in the DC area.
