Message from the Director
Welcome to the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures!
As you navigate through our site, from the quick links running across the page, which open to a world of opportunity --information about graduate and undergraduate programs, areas of faculty expertise, education abroad opportunities, featured research projects, courses, departmental news, and more -- to the primary links, including Special Programs, which take you to the Arabic and Persian Flagship Programs, the Roshan Institute for Persian Studies, the intensive Summer Institute, Education Abroad, or our multilingual home away from home, The Language House, to the main page photo gallery, event calendar, or Research @ SLLC, you will quickly see that at SLLC, the global is local.
We invite all undergraduate students with a keen interest in seeing and communicating with fresh eyes and mind to study with us, to collaborate, to investigate, to speak and be heard. Those who become invested in SLLC will be rewarded with an expanded ability to work with people of a range of cultures, to have sharpened/tuned judgment, to contribute to dialogue, indeed debate, about and within multiple languages and cultures, and to speak, read, and write in more than one, more than two, more than any number of languages.
Our 4 graduate programs provide training for careers in academia, the government, secondary education, and the private sector. We do our utmost to fund students for study, conference travel, research, and dissertation completion, and to bring graduate students into the intellectual life of the School. The SLLC Graduate Student Conference, a focal spring event, has explored themes as diverse as Reflections on Optimism, History as Text, and Encountering Words, Encountering Worlds.
If you don’t find what you are looking for, let us know.
Fatemeh Keshavarz, Director
